Behavioural Risk

What is Behavioural Risk?

  • Behavioural risk (or people risk) applies to risks connected with the workplace behaviours of employees that have a negative impact on productivity, services and branding
  • Risks can include: internet misuse, dishonesty, debt, bullying and harassment, absence, gambling, debt, addictions, grievances, fraud, stress, theft, poor leadership, psychological contract violation

Why address Behavioural Risks?

  • Because they cost: Internet misuse alone is costing the economy over £10bn per year
  • On a purely individual level, this means the average UK employee spends 90 minutes each week surfing the web for personal use
  • Reduction of these costly behaviours can result in improved productivity, morale, reputation and profitability

How does Behavioural Risk Analysis work?

  • People Risk Analysis identifies behavioural ‘hotspots’ within the organisation that highlight where the organisation should focus in order to make the biggest improvement to the bottom line
  • It highlights the degree to which risks are affecting organisational Key Performance Indicators (KPIs can include staff turnover, absence and sales, for example), and the prevalence of each across all units of the company
  • Where useful, employee interviews then complement the overall picture and isolate aspects of the working environment that may be inviting or facilitating poor employee behaviour, leading to actionable intelligence to redress them

How People Resolutions can help:

  • Planning: Through our sister company, human capital consultancy Human Potential Accounting, a People Risk Audit assesses the most damaging people risks and provides robust recommendations to inform HR and organisational strategy
  • Prevention: Training managers in identifying and managing people risks
  • Resolution: Where behavioural risks have led to formal grievances, we offer Mediation and Investigation services to resolve them quickly and efficiently. Our services also include facilitation and consultancy to help resolve individual issues and potential conflicts before they escalate to a formal grievance
