Employee Engagement

What is Employee Engagement?

  • A combination of emotional, cognitive and behavioural attachments between an employee and the workplace
  • “It can be seen as a combination of commitment to the organisation and its values plus a willingness to help out colleagues (organisational citizenship). It goes beyond job satisfaction and is not simply motivation. Engagement is something the employee has to offer: it cannot be ‘required’ as part of the employment contract.” (CIPD)

Why is Employee Engagement so important?

  • Because employers want productive, profitable, customer-focused employees who love their job so much they never want to work anywhere else
  • Because employees want a good place to work, security, and an exciting and rewarding job
  • Because employee engagement and employee engagement improvement strategies work to meet both employee and employer needs, trying to create an engaging role and working environment
  • Which leads to higher levels of innovation and customer confidence/satisfaction; lowers sickness absence and the cost of turnover; improves performance and commitment

How do you engage your people?

  • Give them a real say in what they do, when they do it, how they do it and with whom (teams)
  • Think less about management and more about empowerment
  • Recognise the three keys to engagement: contribution, dedication and collaboration
  • Offer skills and awareness training to help those employees for whom empowerment is a bit new

How People Resolutions can help:

  • Planning: Designing an Engagement Survey or tailoring a pre-existing survey to your organisation’s culture, policies and initiatives
  • Prevention: Providing a wide range of knowledge, skills and behavioural training to ensure colleagues are motivated and engaged to meet their organisational objectives
  • Resolution: Facilitation, consultancy, executive coaching, Mediation and Investigation for all employee engagement issues
