As part of our Comprehensive Audit set, the People Risk Audit can identify behavioural problem ‘hotspots’ within the organisation that highlight where HR should focus its policy and practice in order to make the most significant improvements and genuine cost savings.
The People Risk Audit is carried out by our specialist sister company, Human Potential Accounting (HPA), and scans across multiple areas of employee misbehaviour in the organisation for a comprehensive picture of critical organisational issues:
-
Bullying/Harassment - ‘Unwanted conduct affecting the dignity of men and women in the workplace…related to age, sex, race, disability, religion, nationality or any personal characteristic of the individual’ (ACAS).
-
Internet Misuse - Networking, shopping, gambling, emailing, file sharing and misusing company information.
-
Financial Distress – Resulting in lower productivity and higher absence or presenteeism figures.
-
Conflictual Behaviours – Between manager and employee or employee and employee.
-
Dishonesty - Employee theft, fraud and harmful deception.
-
The Psychological Contract - The extent to which employer/employee fail to respect implicit and explicit mutual expectations and promises.
In a managed step-by-step process, the People Risk Audit identifies which behavioural risks are affecting your Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) the most. The KPIs analysed might include staff turnover, absence and sales, for example - they allow the results to show how much, in financial terms, certain misbehaviours are costing the organisation (and therefore how much can be saved by tackling them).
HPA’s expert consultants then add another layer of intelligence to the findings; through employee interviews, they can pick apart which aspects of the working environment might be causing or exacerbating the problematic behaviour, allowing the business to tackle serious issues at their source.
There are three key stages to the People Risk Audit:

To show an example output of the Analysis stage, the chart below shows the strength of the link between people risks and KPIs. It shows that, in this organisation, bullying/harassment is a strong predictor of increased staff turnover and absence, and that internet misuse is a strong predictor of reduced sales.
